Friedrich Lehner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich Lehner (born December 17, 1900 in Regensburg , † March 3, 1979 in Hanover ) was an engineer and traffic planner.

Life

His father was the businessman Heinrich Lehner. After studying electrical engineering, Friedrich Lehner worked at AEG in Berlin, among other things, on the project planning of the Zugspitzbahn . In 1931 he married Marlen, b. Buttner. From 1938 on, he succeeded Friedrich Lademann as head of the transport company in Leipzig . From 1941 he was a member of the NSDAP block warden . Anti-Semitic views influenced the management of the transport company.

After the Second World War he headed the transport company in Cologne .

In 1954 he moved to Hanover as technical director and board member of ÜSTRA . Under his leadership, the intercity trams that used to go to Barsinghausen and Hildesheim were initially discontinued . The steadily increasing car traffic in the city of Hanover prompted the Üstra to build the light rail. As early as the early 1950s there were plans for an under-paving runway. Lehner now played a decisive role in the subway system in the city center, and in November 1965 the first pile-up for the major project was made on Waterlooplatz . Due to financial difficulties, it initially stalled again. In 1975, six years after his retirement, Hanover's first tram ran from Oberricklingen to under the main station .

Lehner held a number of honorary positions in national and international committees. From 1960 to 1969 he was President of the Association of Public Transport Companies (VöV) and from 1961 to 1969 Vice President of the International Association for Public Transport (UITP) . He was also involved in the Krefeld SWK Mobil .
