Friedrich Ludwig von Württemberg (born December 14, 1698 in Stuttgart , † November 23, 1731 in Ludwigsburg ) was Hereditary Prince of the House of Württemberg .

Life

He was the only child of Duke Eberhard Ludwig von Württemberg (1676–1733) and his wife Johanna Elisabeth von Baden-Durlach (1680–1757) born in the first year of their marriage. After that, the spouses lived largely separately. Due to his military career, Duke Eberhard Ludwig initially rarely stayed in Stuttgart. From 1711 he stayed in Ludwigsburg more and more often, mostly in the company of his long-time mistress Wilhelmine von Grävenitz . Johanna Elisabeth, however, stayed in the Old Palace in Stuttgart.

Friedrich Ludwig married on December 8, 1716 in Berlin Henriette Marie von Brandenburg-Schwedt (1702–1782), the daughter of Margrave Philipp Wilhelm von Brandenburg-Schwedt (1669–1711), the first son of Elector Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg from his second Marriage to Dorothea von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg . Her mother was Johanna Charlotte von Anhalt-Dessau (1682–1750), the daughter of Johann Georg II. Von Anhalt-Dessau.

From this marriage there were two children:

The Hereditary Prince was always considered sickly. Since his son had died after a year and no further descendants were expected, this also had an impact on the Ludwigsburg court for dynastic reasons. With the death of the Hereditary Prince, the rule threatened to pass to the Catholic branch line Württemberg-Winnental . Because of this danger, his father, Duke Eberhard Ludwig, severed his connection to his mistress Wilhelmine von Graevenitz and hoped to get a successor from his legitimate and long-ignored wife Johanna Elisabeth. However, the advanced age of the couple and the imminent death of the duke on October 31, 1733 thwarted these efforts. He was succeeded as the ruling duke by the Catholic Karl Alexander von Württemberg-Winnental .
