Friedrich Wilhelm Müller (painter)

Friedrich Wilhelm Müller (born October 14, 1801 in Kirchditmold ; † February 8, 1889 there ) was a German university professor , art writer and history painter . He belonged to the Nazarenes .

Life

Friedrich Wilhelm Müller was born as the son of a white weaver and later Vice Mayor of the city of Kassel . In 1819 he received the Italian scholarship from the Kassel Art Academy . In Rome he made the acquaintance of Peter von Cornelius and Friedrich Overbeck . He converted to the Catholic Church and married the Italian Adelaida Mancini . In 1827, Elector Wilhelm II called him back to Kassel. From 1838 to 1838 he attended the Kassel literary circle Stiftshütte , in which u. a. Franz von Dingelstedt and Friedrich Oetker frequented. Müller created sketches and designs for the Red Palace on Friedrichsplatz . The artistic commission was never carried out and he returned to Rome in 1828. From 1832 to 1875 Müller was a professor of painting at the Kassel Art Academy and later its director. In 1835 he founded the Art Association for Kurhessen .

In 1876 he published his humorous memoirs Kassel in two volumes for seventy years . He attended the celebrations of the Hessian constitution . He wrote about these in his memoirs:
