Friedrich von Flad

Friedrich von Flad (born December 5, 1770 in Mannheim , † August 24, 1846 in Munich ) was a royal Bavarian officer, most recently major general , and military lawyer . Since 1806 he was a knight of the Bavarian Military Max Joseph Order .

Life

Friedrich von Flad came from the von Flad family, originally from the Rhineland-Palatinate . He was the son of the electoral Bavarian captain Karl August von Flad and his wife Maria Susanna Aloisia.

Friedrich received private lessons and attended elementary school. He joined the infantry regiment "Heerzog Karl von Zweibrücken" as a cadet and was promoted to Junker on April 3, 1787 and to sub-lieutenant on September 21, 1789 . Flad, who had been a first lieutenant since December 12, 1793 , took part in the first coalition war in 1793 . In the following campaign against France in 1800 he fought with distinction. He was seriously wounded in the battle near Oberhausen on June 27, 1800. With an electoral cabinet order , he received the military medal for this on August 20, 1800 . Promoted to captain on September 27, 1805, Flad now belonged to the newly formed 13th Line Infantry Regiment and took part in the campaign against Austria in 1805 and in the campaign against Prussia from 1806 to 1807 .

At the foundation of the Military Max Joseph Order with an army order of March 1, 1806, Friedrich von Flad was made a knight of the order. On March 17, 1809 he received his promotion to major in the 5th Infantry Regiment "Preysing" . As such, he took part with his unit in the campaign against Austria and Tyrol in 1809 . For his achievements in Tyrol , Flad was awarded the order of the French Legion of Honor by decree of June 15, 1809 and army order of June 25, 1809 . As a major he also took part in the Russian campaign of 1812. Promoted to lieutenant colonel on February 16, 1814 , he was commander of the 6th light infantry battalion "Flad". He experienced the campaign of 1814 against France with his unit near Rattenberg in Tyrol, as they feared a renewed uprising of the population. Transferred to the newly formed 14th Line Infantry Regiment on July 16, 1814 , Lieutenant Colonel von Flad came to Aschaffenburg in August 1814 with the 6th Light Infantry Battalion . There he became the commander of the 14th Line Infantry Regiment, with which he marched to France in 1815.

On January 1, 1823, Flad was transferred to the 11th Line Infantry Regiment "Kinkel" and on October 12, 1823 was promoted to colonel of this regiment. In a rescript of April 23, 1828, according to the army order of August 21, 1828, Colonel von Flad received the Cross of Honor of the Order of Ludwig for his services . On March 20, 1835 he became chief of the revision department of the 6th War Ministerial Section with the character of major general. On March 30, 1838, he was appointed real major general, but he was retired on June 26, 1844, Vice-President of the General Auditorium on October 31, 1845.

Friedrich von Flad died on August 24, 1846 at the age of 75 in Munich.
