Karl Johann Friedrich Roth , from 1822 Ritter von Roth , (born January 23, 1780 in Vaihingen an der Enz , † January 21, 1852 in Munich ) was a German lawyer and royal Bavarian State Councilor and President of the Consistory .

He was the son of the teacher Christoph Friedrich Roth (1751-1813) and Christina Wilhelmina, née Hochstetter (1751-1823).

Roth married Katharina (Käthe) Merkel (1792–1842) in Nuremberg on September 10, 1809 , the daughter of market manager Paul Wolfgang Merkel (1756–1820) and Margarethe Elisabeth Bepler (1765–1831).

Sons are the zoologist and explorer Johannes Roth (1815-1858) and the lawyer Paul von Roth (1820-1892).

Life

Roth was a student of law at the University of Tübingen and received his doctorate in 1801 . Then he was legal advisor (consultant) to the imperial city of Nuremberg . From 1810 he was chief finance advisor in the royal Bavarian ministerial department of finance. From 1811 Roth was a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . In 1817 he was appointed Ministerialrat in the Ministry of Finance .

From 1828 to 1848 Roth was President of the Protestant Upper Consistory in Munich. He is considered the organizer of the Bavarian Evangelical Church . He managed to settle the so-called knee bend dispute .

The family estate with letters from Senior Consistory President Friedrich von Roth, his wife Käthe and their children is in the Bavarian State Church Archives.
