Friedrich von Szerdahely (born August 4, 1782 on Wirballen ; † December 4, 1846 in Neuchâtel i. West Pr. ) Was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

The Szerdahely family came from Hungary and had been in Prussian service for a long time . Szerdahely was the son of Friedrich von Szerdahely (* 1754 - December 6, 1825) and his wife Justine Juliane, née Schwarz (May 10, 1766 - January 29, 1838). His father was a colonel and commander of the 1st Leib-Hussar Regiment as well as a knight of the order Pour le Mérite and lord of Rinkowken.

Military career

Szerdahely came on March 1, 1795 as a Junker in the Hussar Regiment "von Suter" of the Prussian Army and advanced to the end of May 1801 to Second Lieutenant . During the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the battles near Ortelsburg, Waltersdorf and Braunsberg. On January 25, 1807 he received the order Pour le Mérite.

After the Peace of Tilsit , Szerdahely came to the 2nd Leib-Hussar Regiment on December 20, 1808 and was promoted to the rank of chief of staff until August 22, 1811 with a patent from May 9, 1811 . On May 14, 1812, he was aggregated as Rittmeister to the 1st Leib-Hussar Regiment . Szerdahely took part in Napoleon's Russian campaign in 1812 , fought in the battle near Bierze and acquired the French Order of the Legion of Honor near Solazzy . There he was appointed squadron chief on December 4, 1812 .

In 1813 the Wars of Liberation broke out. In the battle of the Katzbach , Szerdahely acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class. He took part in the battles near Leipzig and Ligny and was awarded the Iron Cross First Class for Belle Alliance . He was also in the battles at Luckau , Bischofswerda and took part in the transition at Wartenburg . At Meaux he was wounded and received the Order of Saint Anne II. Class. On December 15, 1813, he was aggregated as a major without a patent in the 1st Silesian Hussar Regiment and on April 14, 1814, Szerdahely received the patent for his rank. On March 29, 1815, he was transferred to the 2nd Uhlan Regiment as a regular staff officer .

On December 12, 1816, he received the Russian Order of Saint Stanislaus II Class. On March 30, 1822 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel with a patent from April 3, 1822 , and on June 18, 1825 he was commissioned to lead the 6th Uhlan Regiment . He was also awarded the service cross . With his promotion to Colonel, Szerdahely was appointed regimental commander on March 30, 1827. In the same capacity he worked from March 30, 1831 to March 29, 1835 with the 8th Uhlan Regiment and then with the 16th Cavalry Regiment. On March 30, 1835, he advanced to major general and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III on October 17, 1836 . Class with a bow. Szerdahely took his leave on March 4, 1837 with an annual pension of 2200 thalers. He died unmarried on December 4, 1846 in Neuchâtel (Schwetz district).
