The Frisia V was a car and passenger ferry of the shipping company Norden-Frisia , which was used in the regular service between the East Frisian island of Norderney and Norddeich .

history

The Frisia V was built in 1965 under the construction number 529 at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg . The keel was laid on December 23, 1964, the launch on June 1, 1965. The completion of the ship took place on August 1, 1965, the commissioning took place on August 12, 1965. Initially, the Frisia V was a combination of a car ferry and a passenger ship. The road vehicles could be driven onto the front part of the ferry via a bow ramp. Thus, the ship was initially able to transport 25 cars and 800 passengers.

In 1972 the ferry at the Meyer shipyard was extended from 44 meters to 53.7 meters and in 1984 to 63.7 meters. After the renovation, the ferry could accommodate 52 vehicles and 1450 passengers. The background to the renovation work was the ferry bridges in Norddeich and Norderney, which are still in use today, and which enable cars to drive on and off via the bow and stern of the ferry. In 1991 the ship underwent a final renovation. The promenade deck was moved over the car deck and the wheelhouse was widened over the entire width of the ship. Before that, the wheelhouse was on the starboard side. The old wheelhouse is now used as a lounge in the Norderneyer marina.

On June 16, 2015, the ship collided with the quay wall in Norddeich . Seven passengers were injured. The resulting bow damage was repaired at Emder Werft und Dock GmbH .

In November 2016, the ship was sold to DA Schiffsverwertung in Papenburg , where it was to be scrapped. However, the company was closed. The superstructures were then removed in Groningen and the ship scrapped at Ship and Offshore Recycling Holland in Kootstertille.

technology

The Frisia V was powered by a total of three main engines. A six - cylinder four-stroke engine from the manufacturer Volvo Penta (type: TAMD 163 AA) with an output of 397  kW acted on a fixed propeller via a gearbox and shaft system . Two twelve-cylinder four-stroke engines from the manufacturer Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz (type: SBA 12 M 816) with an output of 366 kW each drove a Schottel SRP 300 rudder propeller.

In addition, the Frisia V had a Veth-Jet transverse thruster in the foredeck, which was powered by a Scania DSI 1457 M40V diesel engine. For the power supply on board, two generator systems were installed, each of which had an eight-cylinder diesel engine of the type MWM D234 coupled with a 140 kVA generator (manufacturer: AvKaick).
