Fritz Barth (theologian)
Johann Friedrich "Fritz" Barth (born October 25, 1856 in Basel ; † February 25, 1912 in Bern ) was a Swiss Protestant Reformed theologian and professor of church history and the New Testament .
Life
After studying Protestant theology at the universities of Basel (with Franz Camille Overbeck ), Leipzig (with Adolf von Harnack ) and Tübingen (with Johann Tobias Beck ), Barth was pastor in Reitnau from 1879 . From 1886 he worked as a theology teacher at the Protestant Preacher's School in Basel . In 1889 he became a private lecturer at the University of Bern , which appointed him extraordinary professor in 1891 and full professor in 1895 for older and middle church history and the New Testament . Barth was a member of the Synodal Council of the Bern regional church . In 1903 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Halle .
Fritz Barth was married to Anna Katharina Sartorius, his sons Karl (1886–1968) and Peter (1888–1940) also became Protestant theologians, and his son Heinrich (1890–1965) became professor of philosophy. His daughter Gertrud (* 1896 in Basel ) was with the pastor Robert Karl Lindt (1893–1948), their son was the theologian Andreas Lindt .
