Fritz Sturm

Fritz Sturm (born June 13, 1929 in Konstanz ; † March 14, 2015 in Echandens , Switzerland ) was a German legal scholar .

Life

Sturm was born as the son of a district judge and a senior government councilor in Konstanz, where he attended the humanistic Heinrich Suso grammar school. After graduating from high school, he studied classical studies and law in Tübingen , Lausanne , Geneva , Bologna and Heidelberg . In 1952 he obtained the Swiss licentiate in Lausanne, in 1954 he passed the legal traineeship in Heidelberg. As a trainee lawyer, he was sworn in as an interpreter. After the second state examination , he received his doctorate in Lausanne in 1957 with an award-winning dissertation on a Cicero position .

He began his university career as a research assistant and lecturer in Heidelberg. In 1964 he completed his habilitation in Roman law , civil law , private international law and comparative law in Munich and in the same year he was appointed associate professor in Lausanne. From 1966 to 1971 he was full professor in Mainz , from 1971 to 1977 in Marburg and from 1977 until his retirement (1999) holder of the chair for German law in Lausanne.

As a visiting professor storm was Berlin , Poitiers , Krakow , Milan , Rome , Ferrara , Urbino , Tokyo and Trent operates.

Storm's main areas of work were international private law in the past and present, family law , inheritance law and nationality law, as well as horizontal and vertical comparative law as well as Roman law of obligations and property law. Since 1974 he was a member of the family law and the law of obligations commission of the German Council for international private law.

  • On his retirement in 1999, the two-volume commemorative publication "Mélanges Fritz Sturm", Liège (1999) with 113 articles in five languages ​​was dedicated to Sturm.
