The Funtenseetauern is 2578 m above sea level. NHN high border summit between Germany and Austria on the northern edge of the Steinernes Meer , one of the nine mountain ranges of the Berchtesgaden Alps . The Funtenseetauern builds up with a broad shoulder over Königs- and Obersee south of Berchtesgaden . The Stuhljoch ( 2448 m ) lies in front of the Funtenseetauern to the northwest and is connected to it by a ridge , which breaks off steeply with the chair wall into the basin of the Funtensee .
The usual approach is from the Kärlingerhaus in three hours on foot over the back of the Stuhlwand and the Stuhljoch ( difficulty according to UIAA scale: I , surefootedness and a head for heights required). In connection with a descent through the Ledererkar , the mountain can be crossed. But also over the Ledererkar itself, over the north ridge of the Halsköpfl , from the Wasseralm , through the Unsünnigen Winkel or the Steinige Grube (among other less known and more difficult variants) the Funtenseetauern is climbed.
In winter the Funtenseetauern is a worthwhile ski tour , the usual ascent takes place in the course of the Großer Reibn . But this summit is also often climbed on skis during a stay at the Kärlingerhaus .
The name "Funtenseetauern" is often mistakenly interpreted as plural and used as "die Funtenseetauern" (analogous to: "the Hohe Tauern ").
