Futaba-gun ( Japanese. 双 葉 郡 ) is a district ( gun ) in Fukushima prefecture , Tōhoku region , Japan .

The district was formed on April 1, 1896 from the amalgamation of the Shineha-gun ( ) and the Naraha-gun ( ). This is where the name "two" ( ) comes from .

As of April 1, 2020, the area had a reported population of 12,572 people in an area of ​​865.12 km² .

Its communities include: Futaba , Hirono , Katsurao , Kawauchi , Namie , Naraha , Ōkuma and Tomioka .

Since the nuclear disaster in Fukushima , the district has been largely within the 30 km evacuation and exclusion zone, so that the entire administration and population had to be evacuated to other communities in the prefecture or neighboring prefecture. Specifically, these were: from Futaba to Kazo in Saitama prefecture , from Hirono to Iwaki , from Katsurao to Aizubange , from Kawauchi and Tomioka to Kōriyama , from Namie to Nihonmatsu , from Naraha to Aizumisato , and from Ōkuma to Aizu-Wakamatsu . On September 4, 2015, the evacuation order for Naraha was lifted again.
