Gérard Drainville

Gérard Drainville (born May 20, 1930 in Île Dupas , D'Autray , † May 11, 2014 in Joliette ) was a Canadian clergyman and bishop of Amos .

Life

Gérard Drainville studied Philosophy and Catholic Theology at the Joliette Seminary and Geology and Biology at the University of Montreal . He was ordained a priest on May 30, 1953 . He was then professor of religious studies at the Joliette seminar and, from 1957, professor of biology at the Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel (Cégep), an educational institution in which technical and pre-university training takes place. He dealt with the Saguenay Fjord . In 2004 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Université du Québec à Rimouski for his research on oceanography .

Pope Paul VI appointed him Bishop of Amos on April 19, 1978 . The Archbishop of Québec and Bishop of the Canadian Military Ordinary , Cardinal Maurice Roy , donated him episcopal ordination on June 12 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were René Audet , Bishop of Joliette , and Gaston Hains , Bishop Emeritus of Amos.

On May 3, 2004, John Paul II accepted his early resignation for health reasons.
