Gößnitz is a district of the municipality An der Poststraße in the Burgenland district of Saxony-Anhalt .

Gößnitz is located northeast of the town of Eckartsberga on the state road 208 in an agricultural area not far south-west of the town of Freyburg (Unstrut) .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1138. An author found May 27, 1088 as the first documentary mention. 156 people live in the village. In the 18th century, Friedrich August von Haeseler was the owner of the manor here.

Origin of name

The name Gößnitz is derived from Gosse nitca from Sorbian and means camp in the forest , because the place was still in the middle of the forest at the time it was established.
