Götterswickerhamm is one of the oldest districts of the city of Voerde (Lower Rhine) in the Wesel district , North Rhine-Westphalia . Götterswickerhamm is located on the right bank of the Lower Rhine at Rhine kilometer 800 and has 545 inhabitants. Until 1913, today's district of Götterswickerhamm formed the community of Görsicker in what was then Dinslaken .

location

Götterswickerhamm is four kilometers southwest of the core town of Voerde on Landesstrasse 4, directly on the right bank of the Rhine . The district is limited to the west by Mehrum , to the north by Löhnen and Voerde-Mitte , to the east by Möllen and to the south by the nature reserve Rheinvorland in the Orsoyer Rheinbogen . The entire local area is part of the nature reserve Rheinvorland.

history

Götterswickerhamm was first mentioned in a document dated May 19, 1003 as Goterswich / Goterswick, when the Archbishop of Cologne Heribert signed an exchange contract for goods in Mehrum and Götterswick against the Hohenbudberg court .

Location of the former municipality of Görsicker

The Prussian mayor's office Götterswickerhamm has comprised the six communities of Görsicker (today's Götterswickerhamm), Löhnen , Mehrum , Möllen , Spellen and Voerde since 1816 . The name of the mayor's office was changed to the mayor's office Voerde-Niederrhein in 1911 . The two communities of Mehrum and Görsicker were incorporated into the community of Löhnen in 1913. In 1934 Görsicker was renamed Götterswickerhamm.

In 1950 the new municipality of Voerde was created through the union of the municipalities of Löhnen (with Götterswickerhamm) and Voerde.

The small town is a popular destination right on the banks of the Rhine. Here the Rhine runs a short distance from east to west.
The following objects are to be classified as worth seeing:

  • "Richtlinde Götterswickerhamm", the meeting place of the Schöffengericht Götterswickerhamm, evidenced by a deed of the Rees Monastery from July 31st, 1327. This documented object under the judicial linden tree was only abolished in 1753 by the Prussian administration as a place of jurisdiction and then the regional court Dinslaken was established.
  • Evangelical Church Götterswickerhamm , 11./12. Built in the 19th century, it is one of the landmarks of the Rhine village. It bore the rare patronage of St. Nicodemus and was originally the own church of the Lords of Götterswick. The foundation of the Romanesque church could have been in the 10th century.
  • "House Götterswick". The former moated castle , first mentioned in 1142, was the ancestral seat of the noblemen of Götterswick, who took over the rule of Bentheim-Steinfurt in 1241 . The exact founding of House Götterswick is unknown. After a forecast of the time should Frankish Empire Knights Godert amid a Wicks a solid house built, after the house and the settlement Godswick were named. The building, restored in 2011, was used as a mayor's office around 1800 and later as a rectory.
  • "House stork's nest". The former windmill , built in 1849, closed in 1900, was provided with an octagonal viewing room from 1924 to 1930 and set up as a restaurant for excursions. The listed building has been privately owned since 1967 .
  • "Rheinpromenade", on which there are various restaurants for excursions. The inviting southern exposure of this promenade attracts tourists in all seasons.
  • High voltage overhead line Wesel - Moers with impressive support masts. It crosses the Rhine at Götterswickerhamm.

Education and sport

There is no longer a school in Götterswickerhamm; it used to be in the village community center. In the local area there is the shooting club "Wacht am Rhein Götterswickerhamm".
