Life

After studying Catholic theology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and at the seminary in Cologne, Günter Assenmacher received the sacrament of ordination on June 24, 1977 in Cologne from Archbishop Joseph Cardinal Höffner . The Bishop of Limburg, Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst , appointed Günter Assenmacher as official of the Diocese of Limburg on October 1, 2010 ; This appointment was extended by five years on November 9, 2013 because of the vacancy in Limburg by the Bishops' Congregation and confirmed by Bishop Georg Bätzing until November 9, 2021. In September 2013 Günter Assenmacher was appointed Dome of Honor at the High Cathedral in Limburg.

In addition, at the request of Felix Genn , then Bishop of Essen, following a corresponding decision by the Apostolic Signature , the tasks of the Episcopal Office of Essen were performed by the Archbishop's Office of Cologne since May 1, 2009. The authorization to do so ( prorogatio competentiae ) was initially for a period of five years and was extended for a further ten years on May 1, 2014, withdrawn on October 11, 2019 after a corresponding decision by Bishop Franz-Josef Overbeck and transferred to the Episcopal Office of Münster . Günter Assenmacher was therefore also official for the area of ​​the diocese of Essen from May 1, 2009 to October 10, 2019 .

Archbishop Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki confirmed Assenmacher in his role as official at his inauguration on September 20, 2014.
