Günter Heyden

Günter Heyden (born February 16, 1921 in Stargard ; † January 21, 2002 in Berlin ) was a German Marxist-Leninist philosopher and director of the Institute for Marxism-Leninism at the Central Committee of the SED .

Live and act

Heyden, the son of a master stove fitter , attended elementary school and also learned the profession of stove fitter. He then worked in the profession. From February 1941 to March 1945 he did military service and was first in American, then until December 1949 in Soviet captivity . While in captivity, he attended the Central Anti-Fascist School in 2040.

After returning to the GDR in 1950 , he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). In 1950/51 he taught at the FDGB school in Beesenstedt , most recently he was deputy headmaster there. From 1952 to 1956 he studied at the Institute of Social Sciences (IFG) and received his doctorate there for Dr. phil. He then taught at this institute until 1957 as a lecturer, from 1957 to 1964 and from 1966 to 1969 as head of the chair for Marxist-Leninist philosophy. From 1965 to 1967 he worked as deputy director of the opinion research institute at the SED Central Committee and was a member of the agitation commission of the Central Committee's Politburo . In 1962 he was appointed professor of historical materialism at the IfG and in 1966 professor with a chair in philosophy. From 1964 to 1968 Heyden headed the Philosophy Section of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR . In 1969 he was appointed full professor and until December 1989 was director of the Institute for Marxism-Leninism at the Central Committee of the SED. He headed the editorial committee of the Marx-Engels Complete Edition on the German side.

From 1956 to 1987 he was a member of the editorial board of the Deutsche Zeitschrift für Philosophie , and from 1976 to 1989 he was also a member of the editorial board of the SED magazine Einheit . From 1981 to 1989 Heyden was a member of the Central Revision Commission of the SED . Heyden was a passionate sailor and has published several books on the sport.
