Günter Heyler

Günter Heyler (born January 13, 1645 in Halle (Saale) ; † October 25, 1707 in Stargard in Pomerania ; also Günther Heiler ) was a Lutheran theologian and general superintendent in Pomerania .

Günter Heyler was born in Halle (Saale) as the son of the bailiff Samuel Heyler and his wife Agnes Schäffer . He attended grammar school in Halle and began studying theology at Leipzig University in 1662 . In 1664 he acquired the gradum magistri .

Heyler became court preacher in Birkenfeld (Nahe) in 1666 and received his doctorate from the University of Jena in 1668 .

In 1670 Günter Heyler became superintendent of Anna Magdalena von Pfalz-Bischweiler in Buchsweiler in Alsace . Because of the war, he had to flee with her to Strasbourg in 1678 and to Hanau in 1679 , where he served as court preacher until 1682.

In 1682 Heyler was given the post of main preacher at St. John's Church in Lüneburg .

In 1688 he became general superintendent of Pomerania as successor to Sylvester Grabe . With Heyler, who was a friend of Philipp Jacob Spener and August Hermann Francke , a pietistic theologian entered the leadership of the Pomeranian Church. In 1693 he had the first High German Bible printed in Pomerania, ordered catechetical exercises in Pomerania and introduced the Advent sermons in the local St. John's Church in Stargard .

Günter Heyler was general superintendent in Pomerania until his death in 1707. He was succeeded by David Nerreter .

Heyler had been married to Susanne Marie Munich, daughter of a senator in Frankfurt am Main, since 1669.
