David Nerreter

David Nerreter (also in the wrong spelling: Nerretter ) (* February 8, 1649 in Nuremberg ; † July 5, 1726 in Stargard in Pomerania ) was a Lutheran theologian who worked as a general superintendent in Oettingen , Nuremberg and Pomerania . He also emerged as a poet.

Live and act

David Nerreter was the son of Peter Nerreter, Named the Grand Council and Cutler was born, and the Anna Maria Buggels. He attended the St. Laurentius Latin School and then the Aegidian Gymnasium in Nuremberg . In 1668 he came to the university in Altdorf near Nuremberg .

David Nerreeeter was already active as a poet in his youth. In 1670 he was crowned a poet in Nuremberg and in the same year accepted as a member under the name Philemon of the Pegnese Flower Order .

Nerreter continued his studies at the University of Königsberg , where he received his master's degree in 1672 and then became an adjunct at the philosophical faculty. After a long trip abroad, which took him to Sweden and Russia , Nerreter came back to Altdorf, where he taught poetry .

In 1677 Nerreter was appointed court chaplain to Oettingen. In 1681 he became a deacon and in 1683 consistorial councilor . Nerreter refused to take over the special general superintendent of Kirchheim monastery . In 1694 Nerreter left Ries to work as a deacon at the Heilig-Geist-Kirche in his home town of Nuremberg . A year later he was given the same position at the main church of St. Lorenz . After less than two years, he moved to the church of St. Bartholomew in the Nuremberg suburb of Wöhrd as pastor .

The text of the song A Christian cannot be without a cross was written around 1700 and is found in many Protestant hymn books. In addition to the songs, he wrote occasional poems, especially on the name days of Prince Albrecht Ernst II of Oettingen-Oettingen , d. H. April 24, 1678, 1679, 1681.

In 1703 he published the book Mahometanische Moschea ... (see list of works). It is a translation of the English language work by Alexander Ross (1590–1654) into German. The aim of the book was to inform Christians about the heresy of Islam in order to demonstrate spiritual superiority.

King Friedrich I of Prussia had David Nerreter appointed as general superintendent of the Duchy of Western Pomerania and the Principality of Cammin in 1709 , whose office was supplemented by that of a consistorial councilor. Nerreter succeeded Günter Heyler . After eleven years of service, he handed over the office to Joachim Friedrich Schmidt .

Since September 20, 1678, Nerreter was married to Dorothea Felicitas Bock from Oettingen, the daughter of the general superintendent and court preacher Benedikt Bock.
