Günter Stein (physician)

Günter Stein (born October 21, 1937 in Forst (Lausitz) ) is a German internist ( nephrologist ) and medical officer.

Life

Günter Stein grew up in Lübbenau / Spreewald . After graduating from secondary school in Calau , he studied medicine at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena from 1955 (state examination in 1960, license to practice medicine 1962). In 1962 he received his doctorate as Dr. med. , The title of his dissertation was On the question of personality change in symptomatic epilepsy . In the mid-1960s he worked for two years at the Chake-Chake hospital on the island of Pemba ( Tanzania ), including several months as medical director. In 1968 he became a specialist in internal medicine , and in 1970 he became a specialist in nephrology . In 1976 he became a senior physician at the Jena University Hospital . In 1977 he completed his habilitation in internal medicine, in 1979 he became a university lecturer, and from 1980 he headed the department for nephrology and dialysis.

In 1988 Stein received an extraordinary professorship , in 1990 he became director of the Clinic for Internal Medicine IV with a focus on nephrology, rheumatology , osteology and pulmonology . In 1992 he became a university professor . From 1990 to 1995 he was the medical director of the Jena University Hospital, from 1997 to 1999 he was the dean of the medical faculty. In 2002 Stein retired, but until 2004 he was acting director of the Clinic for Internal Medicine III. In total, he worked in internal medicine at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena for almost 45 years.

From 2003 to 2015 Stein was chairman of the Academy for Medical Training and Education of the State Medical Association of Thuringia.

Stein dealt scientifically with numerous topics of nephrology: artificial organ replacements and biomaterials , chronic kidney failure and dialysis , trace element and vitamin balance of dialysis patients, adsorption of endogenous and exogenous substances, calcium phosphate metabolism and vitamin D balance , interstitial kidney fibrosis , cell cycle proteins as modulators in the cell proliferation process , cytokines as mediators of chronic proliferation of connective tissue, disorders of the endocrine, renal impairment, regulation of renal synthesis of 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol , pulsatile secretion of parathyroid hormone and the influence of 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics of hirudin , influence of Homocysteine , methylmalonic acid , cystathionine and methylcitric acid on the progression of chronic renal failure, on cardiovascular processes, on the budget of vitamin B , pathogenesis of advanced glycos ylation of end products in diabetics , patients with chronic kidney failure , dialysis patients and kidney transplant recipients .
