from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Günther Peill Foundation is an art and culture foundation in Düren .

General

The foundation was established by the art collector Carola Peill (1907–1992) who, together with her husband, the Düren glass manufacturer Günther Peill (1908–1974), created a collection of works of predominantly classical modernism in the 1950s and 1960s had gathered.

The couple continuously supported the painter Ernst Wilhelm Nay in the 1950s . The main part of their collection with works a. a. von Max Beckmann , Max Ernst , Alexej von Jawlensky , Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Ernst Wilhelm Nay bequeathed Carola Peill - two years after the death of her husband - to the Museum Ludwig and the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum in Cologne in 1976 . For this donation she was honored with the Jabach Medal . Further works can be found in the Leopold Hoesch Museum .

In 1986, Carola Peill established the foundation in Düren in memory of her husband, who died in 1974, as an independent foundation based at the Leopold-Hoesch-Museum in Düren. The foundation awards Peill scholarships to up-and-coming artists and awards the Peill Prize to recognized artists whose works have provided important impulses for contemporary art. In addition, the foundation made a substantial contribution to the financing of the “Peill Forum” as an extension to the Leopold Hoesch Museum in Düren.

Peill Scholarships

The foundation has been awarding grants to young artists since 1987. The scholarship is paid out as monthly support over two years. The scholarship holder receives an exhibition in the Leopold-Hoesch-Museum Düren and a publication.

Peill forum

The Günther Peill Foundation funded an extension to the Leopold Hoesch Museum with 40% of the construction cost of around € 6 million. As a result of the expansion, the exhibition area of the museum was more than doubled and it was fundamentally modernized with air conditioning, modern safety equipment, etc. The extension building was officially opened in June 2010 as the “Peill Forum”.
