Günther Graf von Finckenstein (born January 30, 1852 in Reitwein ; † May 26, 1923 there ) was dike captain in the Oderbruch (1888-1918).

Life

origin

His parents were the first lieutenant in the 1st Guard Regiment on foot in the Prussian Army Count Rudolf (* January 8, 1813 - May 19, 1886) and his marriage to Mrs. Erdmunde von Burgsdorff (* November 28, 1816 - March 3, 1849 ), the heiress of the castle and the Reitwein estate. His father was a grandson of the District President Friedrich Ludwig Karl Finck von Finckenstein and shortly after his marriage in 1841 he said goodbye and devoted himself to his possessions. For example, he set up a kindergarten and an old people's home in Reitwein and had a new local church built from 1856 to 1858 according to plans by the Berlin architect Friedrich August Stüler . His half-brother Heinrich (1855-1939) was a manor and politician.

On October 22, 1888, he was elected dike captain of the Oderbruch. On October 1, 1918, he resigned from office.

Finckenstein rendered outstanding services to the flood reporting service on the Oder . In 1894 he suggested the establishment of a telephone line on the dike from Frankfurt (Oder) (water works) to Schwedt / Oder (electricity master farm) to connect all electricity and dike officials. The telephone line had a length of 138 kilometers and 22 intercoms and was estimated at 30,000 marks production costs. After the First World War , the copper line had to be replaced by iron wire because of the many thefts. The direct connection of all field offices with the dike administration was not given up until 1934, when the public telephone network could be used.

His grave is in the Reitwein local cemetery in the grave of the Finck von Finckenstein family. He had been a member of the Corps Borussia Bonn since 1873 .

Finckenstein was a legal knight of the Order of St. John . He was also awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III for his services . Class with ribbon and the Order of the Crown II. Class awarded.
