The GSX-R 750 is a motorcycle from the Japanese manufacturer Suzuki . The super sports car was introduced to the German-speaking market in 1985 and was one of the first motorcycles in the original superbike class, the 750cc four-cylinder. The original model is technically considered to be trend-setting for the further development of sports motorcycles.

The GSX-R 750 is now without any direct competition, as the other manufacturers no longer have adequate models in their range after the Superbike regulations have been changed to 1,000 cm³ maximum displacement.

history

The first model series of the GSX-R 750, at that time with an air / oil-cooled engine, already had a dry weight of 176 kg and developed more than 74 kW (100 HP). It was offered in a racing-related variant with, among other things, a multi-plate dry clutch and racing fairing as the GSX-R 750 R. The GSX-750 R was in 1983 by easily RG 250 Gamma the second series motorcycle with an aluminum frame . The first model variant from 1985 still had carburettors with cable-operated flat slide valves, which resulted in a spontaneous throttle response that was similar to that of a racing motorcycle. Later versions from 1989 onwards were equipped with constant pressure carburetors, as the sudden acceleration with the tread tires sometimes led to accidents.

In 1992, with the model series GR7BB, water cooling found its way into the GSX-R series, which received the additional abbreviation "W".

With the 1996 model year, a Ram Air system was introduced, which is still used in the GSX-R series today. The 750 models from 1996 to 1999 and the 600 models from 1997 to 2000 were marked with the addition SRAD (Suzuki Ram Air Direct).

In 1998, intake manifold injection was introduced in the 750 models in the SRAD series .

Current technical features

The GSX-R 750 is technically the same as the GSX-R 600. Both have been developed in parallel since 1997.

For the current GSX-R 750, too, Suzuki relies on the engine concept of the liquid-cooled inline four - cylinder engine with two overhead camshafts and four titanium valves per cylinder. An electronic multi-point intake manifold injection is combined with two throttle valves per cylinder, which should help the engine to improve throttle response and pulling power.

The chassis consists of an aluminum bridge frame, a fully adjustable 41 mm upside-down fork and an aluminum two-arm swing arm with an indirectly articulated, fully adjustable central spring strut . A standard steering damper suppresses handlebar bumps (“kick back”), and an anti-hopping clutch (“slipper clutch”) prevents the rear wheel from slamming if the driver downshifts quickly when braking.

The brake system of the GSX-R 750 has two 310 mm brake discs at the front, radially screwed 4-piston fixed calipers from Brembo . The main brake cylinder is designed as a "radial brake pump", which means that the brake lever acts as a simple one-armed lever on the piston.

Racing

Due to the increase in displacement in 2004 in the Superbike World Championship racing class, the GSX-R750 is no longer of great importance in racing. From 2006 to 2008 Suzuki hosted the European Suzuki GSX-R-Cup as part of the Superbike World Championship with the GSX-R750, where young talents could compete with technically identical motorcycles.
