Gad Elmaleh
Gad Elmaleh (born April 19, 1971 in Casablanca ) is a comedian and film actor of Moroccan origin. In addition to Moroccan, he also has French and Canadian citizenship.
Life
Born the son of Moroccan Jews who speaks both Arabic, French and Hebrew, he left his homeland at the age of 17 in the hope of realizing his dreams in French-speaking Québec . His father, an amateur mime artist , sparked his passion for the stage. Elmaleh first spent four years in Montreal , where he gained his first acting experience while studying political science. In 1992 he decided to move to Paris , where he laid the foundations of his career. He studied for two and a half years in the “classe libre” at the Cours Florent . His brother Arié is also an actor today, and his sister Judith has worked with him several times as a writer and director.
From his relationship with the French actress Anne Brochet , Gad Elmaleh has a son (* 2001). They separated in 2002. From 2002 to 2006 he was in a relationship with the French ballet dancer Aurélie Dupont , later with the actress Nora Arnezeder and the journalist Marie Drucker. In March 2013, his relationship with Charlotte Casiraghi became known, who was fourth in the Monegasque throne. According to the press, they had both been a couple since late 2011. They have a son, Raphaël (* 2013 in Monaco), whom they baptized Catholic in 2014 in the Monegasque palace chapel. However, he is not included in the succession to the throne of the Principality of Monaco, because in 2002 his great-grandfather Prince Rainier , himself the son of a legitimate illegitimate daughter of Prince Louis II of Monaco , changed the constitution so that only children from one marriage can inherit. The couple has been separated since October 2015.
In 2006 Gad Elmaleh received the French Order of the Arts and Literature . A year later, Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (Morocco) awarded him an honorary master's degree. In 2011 he was appointed Officier des Arts et des Lettres by France's Minister of Culture, Frédéric Mitterrand .
Career
In Paris, Gad Elmaleh studied with Isabelle Nanty , with whom he set up his first one-man show Décalages in 1995 . The show, which was recorded in the Palais des Glaces, is autobiographical. In it he describes his emigration to Montreal and his life in Paris. Gad, as his fans call him, then turned to film and played his first role in the comedy Kiss-Kiss in Paris , directed by Merzak Allouache. Gad Elmaleh was then seen in more serious roles in films like Men Are Only Women or Train of Life .
His popularity rose with his second one-man show La Vie normal (German: "The normal life") from 2001. In this production, Gad Elmaleh played the role of the North African queen "Chouchou", who had traveled to France as a template for the later comedy Chouchou by Merzak Allouache (2002) served.
In contrast to his first two shows, L'Autre c'est moi (Eng: “The other one is me”) from 2005 contained more improvisations and interactions with the audience and was therefore a stand-up comedy show. The stage show attracted over 300,000 visitors worldwide and sold around 1.5 million copies on DVD. In the same year, Gad Elmaleh starred alongside Gérard Depardieu in the film Olé! by Florence Quentin .
In 2007 Gad Elmaleh started a tour with his show Papa est en haut (German: "Papa is up"). The title indirectly refers to a line in the French children's lullaby Fais dodo Colas mon p'tit frère . The main topics of this show are upbringing and the relationship between father and son. The show attracted over 750,000 visitors.
In May 2013 he went on tour with his new one-man show “Sans Tambour” . He celebrated his twentieth stage anniversary on May 16, 2015 in the Parisian Palais des sports de Paris with the support of French entertainers such as Johnny Hallyday , Kev Adams and Claudia Tagbo.
