Galșa (German: Galscha , Hungarian: Galsa ) is a village in Arad County , Banat , Romania . Galșa belongs to the Șiria municipality .

Geographical location

Galșa is located about one kilometer north of Șiria on a slope of the last foothills of the Zarand Mountains . The Păuliş - Pâncota road runs through the center of the village . The village also has a connection to the railway network on the Arad - Ineu line .

history

Galșa was first mentioned in a document in 1214. In 1439 Galșa was a market town . In 1720 there were fifty families in Galsha. In 1732, the Viennese court chamber settled Germans in the village. Immigration from old and new Sanktanna has been constant since the 19th century .

Viticulture has been an important industry in Galșa since 1835 . The most popular varieties are Muscat Ottonel , Königliche Mädchentraub and Riesling . In 1891 the harvest was destroyed by phylloxera . There was unrest in the village. Farmers and day laborers occupied the town hall. The two winemakers and eighteen other people were arrested and arrested.

Today the wine-growing region of Galșa belongs to the Arad vineyards (Romanian: "Podgoria Aradului").

Demographics

In Galşa, the Romanians have always made up two thirds of the villagers. In 1880 the Germans made up only 5 percent of the population. Their number rose gradually until 1940, when 377 of the 2,369 inhabitants registered as members of the German people; accordingly their share was then 16 percent of the total population. But even in 1977, 326 Germans were counted in Galscha, who lived here alongside 1,433 Romanians, 284 Hungarians, 198 Roma and 3 others. In the census of January 1992, 127 people of the 1993 population identified themselves as Germans.
