history

Hôtel Chabouillé was for Nicolas Chabouillé, a royal tax collector under 1527 I. King Francis , built. In 1822 a cavalry colonel bought the building, which he discovered while visiting Moret-sur-Loing, to give it to his mistress, Mademoiselle Mars , a famous actress at the time. He had the building dismantled and transported to Paris , where it was added to an existing Hôtel particulier in Rue Bayard, a side street off the Cours Albert-Ier, the broad street between Place de la Concorde and Champs-Élysées . In 1955, a real estate company bought the property to redevelop. The sale was linked to the condition that the gallery be brought back to Moret-sur-Loing. There it was rebuilt at its current location in the courtyard of the town hall.

On the ground floor three large arcades open up , the round arches of which are provided with powerful agraffes and decorated with arabesques , some of which merge into mermaids . Over the arcades, medallions with the relief busts of French kings from the House of Valois are arranged in groups of three . On the left are Louis XII. (1462–1515), his wife Anne de Bretagne (1477–1514) and Francis II (1544–1560), on the right side Heinrich II. (1519–1559), Diana von Poitiers (1499–1566) and Francis I . (1494-1547). Above the central arcade is the bust of Margaret of Navarra (1492–1549), the sister of Francis I. The two medallions on the side bear the coat of arms of the lily of the House of Valois and the Navarra chain . The medallions of Francis II, Henry II and Diana of Poitiers were not added until the 19th century.

The pillars of the upper gallery are decorated with female busts and scenes of the deeds of Hercules . On the cornice is a Latin inscription, the translation of which reads: He who can keep his tongue in check and controls his senses is stronger than the one who conquers cities .

The staircase was originally behind the left part of the facade. A window with a richly carved crown opens on both floors, with a frieze with putti making music between them .

On the left of the gallery is the portal of the street-side wing of the Hôtel Chabouillé, which was formerly facing the courtyard. A relief plate with a salamander, the emblem of the French King Francis I, is mounted above a door framed by pilasters and arabesques.
