Gary Vaynerchuk

Gary Vaynerchuk (born Gennady Vaynerchuk on November 14, 1975 in Babrujsk ) is an American multi-entrepreneur, author, influencer, speaker and internationally recognized internet personality. First known as a leading wine critic , Vaynerchuk is best known as a pioneer in digital marketing and social media at the helm of New York-based VaynerMedia and VaynerX. His YouTube channel has over 2.6 million subscribers.

Vaynerchuk is a business angel or advisor to Uber , Birchbox, Snapchat , Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and others. He is a regular keynote speaker at global entrepreneurship and technology conferences.

Early years

Vaynerchuk was born in the Soviet Union and immigrated with his family to the United States in 1978, where they lived in Queens, New York . The family then moved to Edison, New Jersey, where Vaynerchuk ran a lemonade franchise trading baseball cards. He started working in his family's retail wine business at the age of 14. Vaynerchuk earned a bachelor's degree from Mount Ida College in Newton, Massachusetts in 1998.

Career

Wine Library

After graduating from college in 1999, Vaynerchuk took over the day-to-day running of his father's Springfield, New Jersey store called Shopper's Discount Liquors. He renamed the store Wine Library, launched an online store, and in 2006 started Wine Library TV, a daily webcast on wines.

By combining e-commerce , e-mail marketing and pricing Vaynerchuk increased to 2005 the company's revenue from 3 million to 60 million annually US dollars . In August 2011, Vaynerchuk announced that he would be stepping down to create VaynerMedia, a digital agency he founded with his brother in 2009.

VaynerMedia

In 2009, Gary Vaynerchuk and his brother AJ founded VaynerMedia , a social media digital agency. The company provides social media and strategy development services for Fortune 500 companies such as General Electric , Anheuser-Busch , Mondelez and PepsiCo . In 2015 VaynerMedia was named as one of the top agencies in the specialist magazine AdAge . With 600 employees in 2016, VaynerMedia generated sales of 100 million US dollars. The company is also a partner of Vimeo to connect brands and filmmakers with digital content.

The Gallery

In 2017, the Wall Street Journal reported that Vaynerchuk established The Gallery , a new venture that incorporated PureWow, along with other creative content media and companies, following its acquisition by Vaynerchuk and RSE Ventures . PureWow CEO Ryan Harwood is CEO of The Gallery. A sister company of the digital agency VaynerMedia, Marketing Dive , wrote about PureWow that the "merger with VaynerMedia will give the company access to increased video capacities for internal teams and resources."

Investments

Vaynerchuk made a number of investments as a business angel , including: B. in the women's publisher PureWow in 2017. He also invested in Uber, Facebook, Twitter, Venmo and dozens of other startup companies.

VaynerRSE

After exiting Tumblr and Buddy Media, Vaynerchuk formed VaynerRSE as a $ 25 million mutual fund with RSE Ventures' Matt Higgins, with support from Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. The fund is focused on consumer technology and acts as a business angel in addition to traditional investing as a business angel .

BRaVe Ventures

In 2014, Vaynerchuk partnered with social TV entrepreneurs Jesse Redniss and David Beck to create BRaVe Ventures. The company advises television networks on the latest technologies, finances and provides start-up support for startups in the field of the latest multi-screen and social networking technologies . In November 2016, Variety reported that Turner Broadcasting System had acquired the consulting firm of BRaVe Ventures to develop businesses and strategies for their flagship brands, TBS and TNT .

VaynerSports

In 2016, Vaynerchuk invested in the sports agency Symmetry and founded VaynerSports to offer full service representation for athletes. In 2017, VaynerSports signed NFL contestants including Jalen Reeves Maybin and Jon Toth.

Planet of the Apps

In February 2017, Apple and Propagate announced the launch of Planet of the Apps, a reality TV series with recurring cast that includes Vaynerchuk, will.i.am, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Described as Shark Tank meets American Idol , Vaynerchuk and his team on the show evaluate pitches from app developers vying for an investment. The series' cast joined Product Hunt on a tour of Austin, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York.

DailyVee

DailyVee is a daily video documentary series on Youtube that portrays Vaynerchuk's life as a father, businessman and CEO. The series began in 2015 and Vaynerchuk is recording live, interviewing others, and broadcasting VaynerMedia investor and strategy meetings. In the series, Vaynerchuk implements social media strategies, particularly via Snapchat , to demonstrate social media marketing.

The GaryVee Audio Experience

The GaryVee Audio Experience is a podcast in which various media sources by Gary Vaynerchuk are disseminated and compiled (#AskGaryVee Show, keynote presentations on marketing and business, DailyVee video series, and interviews on which Vaynerchuk can be heard). In addition, new audio recordings are recorded especially for the podcast. The podcast started in 2014 and is available on twelve platforms, including iHeart Radio , iTunes and Spotify .

The #AskGaryVee Show

In 2014, Vaynerchuk launched the #AskGaryVee Show on YouTube with his personal content production team. On the show, Vaynerchuk answers questions from Twitter and Instagram and reacts in characteristic and improvised ways. The show's questions, which mostly involve entrepreneurship, family and business issues, are pre-screened by the production team but not viewed by Vaynerchuk prior to the show. The AskGaryVee Show inspired Vaynerchuk's fourth book: AskGaryVee: One Entrepreneur's Take on Leadership, Social Media, and Self-Awareness .

Wine Library TV

From 2006 to 2011, Vaynerchuk hosted a video blog on YouTube entitled Wine Library TV ( WLTV or The Thunder Show ) with wine reviews, wine tastings and wine tips. The show debuted in February 2006 and was produced daily at the Wine Library store in Springfield, New Jersey. Vaynerchuk appeared on the cover of the December 2008 issue of Mutineer magazine, starting the Mutineer Interview series. Celebrity guests included Jancis Robinson, Heidi Barrett, Kevin Rose, Timothy Ferriss, Jim Cramer from CNBC's Mad Money, Wayne Gretzky and Dick Vermeil.

After 1,000 episodes, Vaynerchuk quit the show in 2011, replacing it with a video podcast, The Daily Grape. In August 2011, Vaynerchuk announced on Daily Grape that he would be retiring from wine video blogs.

Wine & Web

In 2010 Vaynerchuk Wine & Web launched on Sirius XM satellite radio . The program of the show combines new wine tastings in a segment called “Wine of the Week” with gadgets, trends and startups in the “Web of the Week” segment.

Crush It!

In March 2009, Vaynerchuk signed a 10-book contract with HarperStudio for more than $ 1,000,000 and released the first book in October of that year: Crush It! Why Now is the Time to Cash in on your Passion . In the first few weeks after its release, Crush It! on Amazon's # 1 bestseller list for web marketing books. It appeared second on the New York Times Hardcover Advice bestseller list and on the Wall Street Journal bestseller list . Crush It! has been featured in ReadWrite, CBS News, and Psychology Today . Crush It! was also among the first books published on the Vook platform.

The thank you economy

In 2011, Vaynerchuk's second book, The Thank You Economy, reached number two on the New York Times Hardcover Advice bestseller list. “The Thank You Economy” discusses the numbers and soft factors that drive successful relationships between businesses and consumers.

Jab, jab, jab, right-hook

In 2013 Vaynerchuk published his third book, "Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: How to Tell Your Story in a Noisy Social World," with Harper Business. By highlighting campaigns and strategies that both succeeded or failed on all major social media platforms, Vaynerchuk's third book shows social media marketing strategies and tactics that businesses should avoid or use. Jab, Jab, Jab, Right-Hook made it onto the Wall Street Journal's list of business books and ranked fourth on the New York Times Hardcover Advice bestseller list.

AskGaryVee: One Entrepreneur's Take on Leadership, Social Media, and Self-Awareness

In March 2016, Vaynerchuk published his fourth book, "AskGaryVee: One Entrepreneur's Take on Leadership, Social Media, and Self-Awareness," with Harper Business, part of HarperCollins . Based on Vaynerchuk's Youtube series #AskGaryVee, Vaynerchuk compiled the best questions and answers from this Youtube show into a novel with topics such as self-awareness, parenting and entrepreneurship. #AskGaryVee is Vaynerchuk's fourth New York Times bestseller.

Vaynerchuk has been featured in the New York Times , the Wall Street Journal , GQ, and Time , and he appeared on the talk show Late Night with Conan O'Brien and Ellen . In the 2000s, Vaynerchuk was described as “the first wine guru of the YouTube era,” “the new superstar of the world of wine,” and by Rob Newsom, a Washington state winemaker , “besides Robert Parker , probably the most influential wine critic in the United States ". In 2003, Market Watch magazine awarded Gary Vaynerchuk the “Market Watch Leader” award, making him the youngest recipient of the award. In July 2009, Decanter put Vaynerchuk on number 40 on the “Power List”, the list of the most influential people in the wine industry, noting that he “represented the power of blogging”.

In 2011, the Wall Street Journal added Vaynerchuk to its list of Twitter's Small Business Big Shots, and Bloomberg's Business Week put him on their list of the 20 People Every Entrepreneur Should Follow. In 2013, Vaynerchuk appeared on the cover of the November issue of Inc. magazine with the report "How to Master the 4 Big Social Media Platforms".

In 2014, he was named one of the Fortune's 40 under 40 and judged on the Miss America beauty pageant. In 2015, he was named Crain's New York Business 40 under 40 and was placed on Inc.'s list of "Top 25 Social Media Keynote Speakers You Need to Know" . In 2016, Vaynerchuk was a judge for the Genius Awards.
