Gary Yershon

Gary Yershon (born November 2, 1954 in London ) is a British composer who became internationally known for his compositions for films such as Happy-Go-Lucky or Mr. Turner - Master of Light .

life and career

Gary Yershon, born in London in 1954, composes his music primarily for theater, radio, film and television. As music director, he was in charge of the theater production The Threepenny Opera by Phyllida Lloyd at Donmar Warehouse in 1994 . Musically he writes and supervises theater productions in London's West End . This includes the Royal National Theater and the Royal Shakespeare Company .

For theater and film director Mike Leigh he was engaged in 1999 as music director for his comedy Topsy-Turvy - Upside down . He later wrote the score for Leigh's film productions Happy-Go-Lucky and Another Year . For the historical drama Mr. Turner - Masters of Light with Timothy Spall in the lead role, he received an Oscar nomination in the category Best Film Music in 2015 .

In addition to his work as a composer, Gary Yershon also works as an arranger. He is also a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company .

In 2009 Yershon was nominated for the New York Theater Prize , the Drama Desk Award , in the category Outstanding Music in a Play .
