The Gehrenspitze above the Lech Valley |
The Miter peak with 2163's third highest mountain in the m Tannheimer group and is located in the Austrian State Tirol (not to be confused with the Gehrenspitze in Wettersteingebirge ).
Surroundings
The Gehrenspitze massif forms the north-eastern corner of the Tannheim Valley . To the east of the Gehrenspitze, the area slopes down into the Lech Valley towards Reutte . To the west of the mountain is the Kellenspitze (2238 m), to the north is the Great Schlicke massif with Musauer Berg (1510 m) and to the south is the Schneid (2009 m).
geology
Like the Tannheim Mountains, the Gehrenspitze also belongs to the Northern Limestone Alps , which began around 140 million years ago in the course of the alpine mountain formation in the Lower Cretaceous and has not yet completely subsided. The summit of the Gehrenspitze is made of Wetterstein limestone. To the south, Stepping below the summit Partnach , North Alpine Raibl , Hauptdolomit and Kössener layers to light. Muschelkalk is not visible inside the summit structure. In the area of the Gehrenspitze, the Inn valley ceiling pushes against the Wetterstein mass .
Ascent
On the normal route , the Gehrenspitze is climbed from the south via the Gehrenjoch . You can get to this from Reutte , Nesselwängle and the Raintal . From here, path 417b with difficulty I + ( UIAA ) leads over the south side through a channel into the gorge (clearly visible in the photo from the south) between the summit and the secondary summit and then over the west ridge to the summit. There are also numerous challenging climbing routes on the Gehrenspitze.
