Geiersthal is a village in the Lichte district of the city of Neuhaus am Rennweg in the Sonneberg district in Thuringia .

Geiersthal is located north of Lichte in a valley of the Lichte river, surrounded by the wooded slopes of the Thuringian Forest . The district can be reached from Bundesstraße 281 from the Wallendorfer Porzellan-Manufaktur junction on a local road . The Deesbach dam , a pre- dam to the Lichtetalsperre, is located in this direction .
history
Geisersthal was first mentioned in a document in 1421. A drawing school for the porcelain painters has been set up in this place. There is also a holiday complex. Until 1918 the place belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .
On January 1, 2019, Geiersthal came to the town of Neuhaus am Rennweg as part of the incorporation of Lichte and thus moved from the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district to the Sonneberg district.
