Together with Ascherbach , Waschdorf , Hügel and Dorst, Oberlichte is the largest village in the Lichte district in the town of Neuhaus am Rennweg in the Sonneberg district in Thuringia .
location
In the southern part of the Thuringian Forest , in a wooded area, lies the municipality of Lichte with the districts of Bock and Teich , Geiersthal , Oberlichte and Wallendorf .
history
The first documentary mention of Lichte (Wallendorf) took place on December 29, 1414. Lamprechts, which was run with Wallendorf, was first mentioned in a document on December 21, 1386. The history of the district is shaped by the more than 240 year old tradition of porcelain production . The Wallendorfer Porzellanmanufaktur has existed since 1764.
The founding of the Lichte Porcelain Manufactory in Oberlichte by the Heubach brothers dates back to 1822. Only a little later in 1840 the brothers bought another porcelain factory in Lichte and exported in particular porcelain character dolls such as “Whistling Jim” to the USA .
In 1950 the previously independent valley villages of Bock and Teich, Geiersthal, Oberlichte and Wallendorf were merged to form the municipality of Lichte, which at that time had more than 3,000 inhabitants. Since 1990, the municipality of Lichte has been part of the Lichtetal am Rennsteig administrative community , which has its administrative headquarters in Lichte-Wallendorf.
On January 1, 2019, Lichte was incorporated into the town of Neuhaus am Rennweg and moved from the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district to the Sonneberg district.
