Siegmundsburg is a district of the town of Neuhaus am Rennweg in the district of Sonneberg , Thuringia .

geography

Siegmundsburg is located on the Rennsteig in the Thuringian Slate Mountains . It's a street village . The Dreistromstein , which marks the intersection of the water catchment areas of the Weser , Rhine and Elbe , stands near the village .

history

The Hifteberg houses were first mentioned in a document in 1492. In 1728 the head stable master Hans Siegmund von Schaumberg granted the glass master Michael Gundelach the concession to build and operate a glass and faience hut (Gundelachshütte). The company flourished in the first decades of its existence and the place grew around the Saar houses . Michael Gundelach was promoted to castle captain at Eisfeld and sold the hut in 1772 to the Duchess Charlotte Amalie von Sachsen-Meiningen , who converted it into a forester's house. In 1737 the Hifteberg houses , one in the area of the Sonneberg court and two on Schaumberg-Rauensteiner territory in the later Schalkau office above a former gold mine in the bottom of the upper Grümpen , were counted as Siegmundsburg. Siegmundsburg belonged to Sachsen-Meiningen until 1920.

On December 31, 2012, Siegmundsburg was incorporated into Neuhaus am Rennweg.

coat of arms

The coat of arms of the village, approved on April 11, 1995, shows a three-colored division of a silver obelisk and a green horn above a three-mountain with embedded wave tips. The obelisk on a blue background symbolizes the Dreistromstein located in the corridor of the village at the hydrographic point of contact between the three river basins of the Elbe , Rhine and Weser, as well as the prevailing humid climate. The Hifthorn symbolizes the hunting traditionally practiced in the area. The Dreiberg indicates the ridge of the place, the green stands for the wooded area.
