Geisenbach is a hamlet in the Ober-Mumbach district of the Mörlenbach municipality in the Bergstrasse district in southern Hesse .

Geographical location

Geisenbach is located in the southeast of the Ober-Mumbach district in the western Odenwald near the Bergstrasse in the headwaters of the Mumbach , a left eastern tributary of the Weschnitz . Geisenbach essentially consists of six agricultural homesteads that were built in close proximity to one another. To the southeast of the hamlet, the highest point in the Ober-Mumbacher district reaches a height of around 370 meters.

Within less than a kilometer of Geisenbach are the hamlet of Rohrbach in the west, the hamlet of Schnorrenbach in the south and the village of Vöckelsbach in the east .

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Geisenenbach in 1829:

»Geisenbach (L. Bez. Lindenfels), Weiler has 3 houses and 27 inhabitants, including 13 Luth. 13 reform. and 1 Kath. It is in the district of Obermumbach and came from Churpfalz to Hessen in 1802. "

In the latest and most thorough alphabetical lexicon of all localities in the German federal states from 1845 it says about Geisenbach:

»Geisenbach near Oberwambach. - courtyards, to evangel. Parish Birkenau u. Waldmichelbach, resp. Belongs to the Catholic parish of Mörlenbach. - 2 H. 27 E. - Grand Duchy of Hesse. - Starkenburg Province. - Heppenheim district. - Fürth district court. - Darmstadt Court of Justice. - The place came from the Electoral Palatinate to Hesse in 1802. "

In the statistics of the Grand Duchy of Hesse, based on December 1867, the hamlet Geisenbach with the mayor's office in Reisen , 5 houses, 34 inhabitants, the district of Lindenfels, the district court of Fürth, the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Birkenau and the Reformation parish of Wald-Michelbach are recorded of the deanery of Lindenfels and the Catholic parish of Mörlenbach of the deanery of Heppenheim.

Essentially, the hamlet shares history with Ober-Mumbach in whose district it is located. For 1927 the population is given as 41.

Together with Ober-Mumbach, Geisenbach became part of the municipality of Mörlenbach in the run-up to the regional reform in Hesse on December 31, 1970.

A road connection from Ober-Mumbach to Geisenbach consists of a 400-meter-long communal road that branches off from the K 12 district road just before Rohrbach .
