Geismar is a district of Frankenberg (Eder) in the north Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg . The B 253 runs through the village , on the southern edge of the village is the state road 3332.

The place was first mentioned in 1196 as "Geismaria". Geismar is one of the oldest settlements in the old Frankenberg district .

On 1 July 1971. Geismar was in the course of administrative reform in Hesse on a voluntary basis in the city Frankenberg (Eder) (former spelling Frankenberg-Eder ) incorporated . Mayor is Klaus-Peter Stein (as of August 2011).

Local public transport is provided by a collective taxi and a bus connection.

In 2008, a dog sled race was held in Geismar for the second time . There is a primary school in the village . Between Frankenberg and Geismar you can still see heavily overgrown spoil heaps , which testify to the mining of the copper marl between 1590 and 1818.

The local TSV Geismar is represented with its first football team after promotion in 2017 in the Frankenberger Kreisliga A, the first table tennis team plays in the Kreisliga. The local rural youth group is active at folklore festivals such as the Europeade all over Europe. The volunteer fire brigade , the rifle club, the museum club, the men's choir and the church choir also contribute to active life in the village community.

The Museum Geismar was set up by the Heimat- und Kulturverein Geismar eV on a voluntary basis. The focus of the exhibition is on copper and silver mining near Geismar.
