The Geissweidbächli falls between the cantons of Zurich (left) and Aargau into the Gruenhaldentobel

The Geissweidbächli is a 110-meter-long left tributary of the Lunnerenbach in the communities of Oberwil-Lieli and Birmensdorf in the cantons of Aargau and Zurich .

Until 1954, the brook flowed entirely in the Zurich area. Since border adjustments, it has formed the canton border almost along its entire course.

The Geissweidbächli plunges into the Gruenhaldentobel

The Geissweidbächli rises at 581  m above sea level. M. a wetland that extends over the canton border. The stream runs for around 20 meters on Zurich soil in a south-easterly direction. It reaches the canton border, which it forms from here to its mouth.

Shortly before the mouth, the stream plunges into a 14 meter high waterfall into the Gruenhaldentobel and flows right afterwards at 547  m above sea level. M. in the upper reaches of the Lunnerenbach.

geology

The brook has partly eaten its way deep into the sedimentary rock of marl and marl sandstone of the upper freshwater molasse , which was formed between the Langhium and Serravallium .

flora

In the source area there is a mixed forest of two-leaf and ash trees, which grows here on waterlogged soils. The course of the stream is then characterized by woodruff - beech forest with lungwort , flaccid sedge and sometimes forest ziest . At the mouth there is again a typical maple- ash forest
