Yellow orange S , also Sunset Yellow FCF , is an artificial acid and lightfast food coloring from the class of azo coloring agents . As a food additive E 110, it is preferably used in ready-made foods such as citrus fruit yoghurt or in yellowish cheeses. It is classified as an allergen (asthma, skin reactions), which particularly affects people with aspirin intolerance. Kidney tumors have also occurred in animal experiments.

use
Yellow Orange-S is used as a coloring agent in food and pharmaceuticals. Among other things, it is used in:
- Asia rice and peanut snacks
- Bubble teas
- Fruit gums
- jelly
- some potassium substitution drugs
- Salmon substitute
- Medications such as ACE inhibitors
- Vetmedin (medicine for dogs with heart disease)
- Aperol
- Coloring of antiseptics for skin disinfection to identify the areas that have already been treated
Sunset yellow (E110) may cause allergic reactions to ACE inhibitors, including asthma.
Legal situation
Since July 21, 2010, foods containing the azo dye must be labeled in the European Union with a warning, the text of which reads: "May impair activity and attention in children".
On June 1, 2013, the permitted daily dose was temporarily reduced from a maximum of 2.5 mg / kg body weight to 1 mg / kg body weight. In view of the new data available, a permitted daily dose of 4 mg / kg body weight was set on May 15, 2014.
