The municipal council election in 1982 took place on March 14, 1982 and was the eighth municipal council election in St. Pölten after the end of the war. Despite slight losses, the Socialist Party of Austria was again able to unite the largest number of votes and defend the absolute majority .

Starting position

In the election of March 13, 1977 , the SPÖ was able to unite the most votes and defend the absolute majority with strong profits . While the ÖVP and KPÖ lost slightly, the FPÖ recorded gains. At the turn of the year 1981/1982, some localities from the districts that were incorporated in 1972 were removed again.

Campaigning parties and election process

The four parties represented in the municipal council ran for the elections. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) ran with Hans Schickelgruber as the top candidate, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) under Josef Kimmeswenger.

Election result

In the election of March 14, 1982, the SPÖ was again able to unite the most votes and defend the absolute majority with slight losses . ÖVP and KPÖ suffered slight losses, the FPÖ was able to win an additional mandate from the ÖVP with significant gains.

Effects

At the constituent meeting of the municipal council on April 2, 1982, Schickelgruber was elected mayor , while Oswald Hameder (SPÖ) and Josef Kimmeswenger (ÖVP) became vice-mayors. The SPÖ provided seven councilors, the ÖVP four.
