history

Prehistory as a German Parcel

On April 28, 1989, Rico Back and 24 other medium-sized freight forwarders founded German Parcel Paket Logistik GmbH in Neuenstein, Hessen . The international connection followed in 1992 with the founding of the German Parcel Association in the form of strategic partnership agreements with foreign parcel services.

founding

In October 1999 the British Royal Mail acquired German Parcel Paket Logistik GmbH with General Logistics Systems BV, newly founded in the Netherlands, as the holding company. Rico Back became the first managing director . A number of other European parcel services, some of them from the German Parcel network, were then taken over and combined under the umbrella of the holding company, including the Der-Kurier group of companies, General Parcel Hungary and the Irish Williams Group in the same year. General Parcel Austria, Danish Pakke-Trans and Stafetten A / S., Nederlandse Pakket Dienst, Extand from France, British Parcelforce Worldwide, GP General Parcel Ljubljana and the Dachser subsidiaries Domberger Paket Dienst and Deutscher Paket followed in 2000 Dachser service. This was followed in 2001 by Szybka Paczka Spólka, General Parcel Finland and the Italian Direzione Gruppo Executive. In 2002, GLS was introduced as the umbrella brand for all continental European parcel services of Royal Mail and the company renamed accordingly .
