history
The history of the agency goes back to the medical department in the General Air Force Office . In 1966 the Air Force Medical Service Inspection , which was subordinate to the Air Force Office, emerged from it. From October 1, 1970, the office was called General Doctor Air Force Medical Service , and for the first time from October 1973 it was set up as an independent office in Lohmar-Heide near Siegburg General Doctor of the Air Force. As before, the service was subordinate to the Air Force Office, but technically it was subject to the Sanitary and Health Inspection (InSan) in the Federal Ministry of Defense. Disbanded with the capture of Air Force Structure 5 by February 2002. The armed forces-specific medical service matters were now the responsibility of the Air Force inspector. The Department of Aviation and Space Medicine / Aviation Medical Service of the Bundeswehr in the staff of the Air Force Office took on the main tasks of the agency . From October 2004 to September 2013, the independent GenArztLw office was again set up under this name in the Brückberg barracks ( Siegburg ).
Organizational change as part of the realignment
After more than 50 years as an integral part of the Air Force, the Air Force General Doctor and the Air Force Institute of Aviation Medicine were decommissioned on September 30, 2013 as part of a military appeal on the old parade ground of the Wahn Air Force Barracks. This is followed by the newly established center for aerospace medicine of the Air Force (ZentrLuRMedLw), which has covered the wide range of tasks since October 1, 2013.
