Heinz S. Fuchs

Heinz S. Fuchs (born September 12, 1917 in Plauen ; † March 12, 2008 in Bad Godesberg ) was a German doctor and general staff doctor in the Bundeswehr . He was a specialist in internal diseases and lung diseases, occupational medicine, sports medicine and aviation medicine.

Live and act

Fuchs studied as Air Force member of the Military Medical Academy at the Humboldt University of Berlin and the University of Vienna , served in World War II as a flight surgeon and as Chief Medical Officer and fell in the war in captivity.

After returning from captivity in 1946, he was chief physician at a tuberculosis hospital and joined the Bundeswehr in 1958 . In 1968 he was promoted to general physician in connection with the transfer to the post as head of the Air Force Medical Service Inspection in the General Air Force Office . In October 1970, the office was reclassified as General Doctor Medical Service of the Air Force (today General Doctor of the Air Force ). In his last employment from 1972 until his retirement in 1977 he was head of the Bundeswehr Medical Office with the rank of general staff doctor .

From 1974 to 1978 he was President of the German Aerospace Society , of which he had been an honorary member since September 19, 2003. He was also an honorary professor at the University of Giessen until 1983 . He was a fellow of the American Astronautical Society , an honorary member of the Académie de l'Air et de l'Espace and numerous similar international associations.

Fuchs published well over 100 specialist articles.
