The Cooperative of the Workshops for Disabled People Middle eG (GDW Mitte), formerly the Cooperative of the Workshops for Disabled People Hesse and Thuringia eG , based in Kassel, is a non-profit association of state-recognized workshops for disabled people (WfbM). In addition to its members, the GDW is also active for the other WfbMs in the federal states of Hesse , Thuringia , Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland .

The Cooperative of Workshops for Disabled People Hessen and Thuringia eG was founded on June 19, 1995 by 17 workshop owners. In 2009, 42 institutions or workshop providers from Hesse , Thuringia and Rhineland-Palatinate were members of the cooperative . It was later merged with GDW Berlin-Brandenburg. In 2016 the merger with GDW North Rhine-Westphalia and the change of name to Cooperative of Workshops for Disabled People Middle eG were announced.

Cooperative purpose

The founding idea was to be able to offer customers such services with a network that a workshop cannot provide alone, such as B. a nationwide shredding of files . In addition, customers should be given the opportunity to access various services from different workshops from a single source without having to organize such joint projects themselves. In addition, the need was seen to achieve a transfer of know-how between the workshops through a merger.

The task of the cooperative consists u. a. in further training and information events for employees with disabilities and the specialist staff of the WfbM's. Another charitable task is to receive orders from customers from industry, trade, craft, public institutions and z. B. to acquire the banking sector for the workshops for disabled people and their affiliated integration companies and to coordinate the execution of the work and services. Since the main task of the GDW is to carry work into the workshops , the tax authority recognizes that the GDW exclusively and directly pursues tax-privileged purposes within the meaning of §§ 51 ff. Tax Code .

At the beginning of 2014, "53 ° NORD", an agency and publisher for the professional participation of disabled people, was taken over by the GDW.

The GDW organizes advanced training events for the employees of the WfbMs, some of which are carried out together with sister companies and the Federal Working Group for Workshops for Disabled People (BAG: WfbM).

The range of services for commercial customers and public institutions includes all areas that are carried out by the WfbM's by employees with disabilities. The cooperative is integrated into a nationwide network of comparable companies, consisting of GAV Berlin gGmbH ( Berlin ), GfA Sachsen gGmbH ( Leipzig ), GDW Niedersachsen, Bremen, Sachsen-Anhalt eG ( Oschersleben ), GDW-Nord eG ( Rendsburg ), GDW NRW GmbH ( Essen ) and GDW-SÜD eG ( Sindelfingen ).
