Georg Adalbert Huhn (born April 19, 1839 in Orb ; † August 11, 1903 in Bad Aussee , Styria) was the parish priest and prelate in Munich, a member of the Bavarian Chamber of Deputies , a nationally known speaker at the German Catholic Days and a writer.

Life

Georg Adalbert Huhn was born in Orb, Franconia , Kingdom of Bavaria ; after the German war of 1866 the city fell to Prussia. In Aschaffenburg he attended high school and also completed his philosophical studies. Then he entered the clerical seminary in Würzburg and was ordained priest on April 23, 1862. Huhn got his first job as a cooperator in Elsenfeld , in 1864 he went to Bad Kissingen as a preacher , from November 1st of this year to December 31st, 1870 he worked as a chaplain in Aschaffenburg, St. Agatham. Even in those early years of priesthood, Huhn emerged as a gifted preacher and congregation speaker.

In 1871, Huhn was appointed parish preacher in the royal capital and residence of Munich , parish Mariahilf , in the suburb of Au. Here, too, he gained popularity as an excellent preacher and eloquent speaker at Catholic meetings. He performed in this capacity at the Catholic Days in Vienna , Munich, Mainz and Breslau . Georg Adalbert Huhn was elected as a member of the Bavarian Chamber of Deputies on July 24, 1875 for the city district of Munich, to the right of the Isar . He held that parliamentary mandate for the Bavarian Patriot Party until 1881. In 1883 the clergyman took over the parish of the Holy Spirit and had this church expanded in 1885. Pastor Huhn was promoted to the papal house prelate and a modern appreciation stated: "Huhn is one of the most important pulpit preachers in Munich, especially during the Catholic days he was known far and wide as an intrepid caller against the oppression of the Catholic Church in the Kulturkampf." The priest also published as an author several apologetic and historical writings. He died in Bad Aussee in 1903 .
