Georg Wilhelm Best (born October 8, 1855 in Darmstadt , † November 29, 1946 in Hirschhorn am Neckar ) was a German lawyer and politician ( DNVP , VRP ).

Life and work

Georg Best was the son of the Sparkasse director Johann Baltasar Best and his wife Auguste nee Glöckner. After attending grammar school in Darmstadt, he studied law from 1873 to 1877 at the universities of Leipzig , Heidelberg and Gießen . In 1877 he was at the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg to the Dr. jur. did his doctorate and then completed his legal preparatory service. In 1881 he became a lawyer in Darmstadt and in 1885 in Mainz. From 1885 to 1888 he worked as a public prosecutor in Mainz , from 1888 to 1894 in the same position in Darmstadt. He then worked briefly as a magistrate in Hirschhorn . From 1894 to 1896 he worked as a district judge in Gießen and Darmstadt .

Best was appointed to the Grand Ducal Hessian Ministry of Justice in 1896 and worked there as an unskilled worker until April 1900. After being appointed Ministerial Councilor in 1900, he held the same position in the following years and was appointed Privy Councilor and Council of State in 1906 . From January 1, 1916 until his retirement on February 1, 1924, he was President of the Darmstadt Higher Regional Court . In 1920 he was state commissioner for the occupied Hessian areas and representative of the Hessian government and authorities in the delegation of the High Commission of the Province of Rheinhessen and the high command of the French Rhine Army in Mainz. In addition to his professional activity, he worked as a lecturer at the Technical University of Darmstadt from 1920 . Among other things, he edited and commented on the Hessian implementing laws for the BGB . Georg Best died on November 29, 1946 in Hirschhorn am Neckar.

On August 12, 1882, Georg Best married his wife Auguste nee Lochmann (born July 3, 1860 in Darmstadt), the daughter of court attorney Adolf Lochmann and his wife Marianne nee Eigenbrodt. Georg Best had a daughter and a son.

MP

In the Reichstag election in December 1924, Best was elected to the German Reichstag for the DNVP , of which he was a member until September 1930. In June 1925 he left the DNVP faction and was accepted as a guest in the Völkische Arbeitsgemeinschaft . Shortly afterwards, he switched to the Reich Party for People's Law and Appreciation as a member of parliament . From 1927 to 1931 he was a member of the Landtag of the People's State of Hesse .
