from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg Haase (* 21st November 1859 in Wroclaw , province of Silesia ; † 15 January 1931 ) was a German brewery - entrepreneurs . In 1904 he acquired the health resort Bad Altheide in the district of Glatz , which he converted and modernized in 1923 into a stock corporation under the name "Altheide AG für Kur- und Badebetrieb".

Life

Haase's parents were the brewery owner Eduard Haase (1832-1896) and his wife Dorothea Haase nee. Preuss (1832-1903). His father had acquired the Kretscham "Zur golden Katharina" in 1859 in Breslau, where in the 1850s distilleries and breweries were established in the course of industrialization , and founded a lager brewery in its place . Eduard Haase later reported on the Breslau draft beer or "Trenkebier", also called "Langwel", and the dark, heavily brewed Schweidnitz "Gutbier", which has to be particularly bitter in order not to spoil on the long transport to Poland and Hungary.

Haase completed his studies at the Bavarian Academy for Agriculture and Brewery Weihenstephan and continued his practical training in various German and Bohemian breweries. In 1882 he joined the parents' lager brewery E. Haase as an authorized signatory , which became the largest private beer brewery in Silesia . In 1883 he married Helene (1861–1945), the daughter of master carpenter Carl Schlick; the two had four children.

From 1897 to 1899, Haase had a representative house built in Wroclaw on the Ohlauer Stadtgraben (today ulica Podwale 76/77) based on plans by the renowned Berlin architect Otto March , the historicist architecture of which was based on the formal language of the Italian Renaissance . The house consists of a main building, a coach house and a servants' house. It later served as the headquarters of the Hitler Youth, after 1949 the General Consulate of the GDR and from 1990 the German Consulate General in Breslau.

As a successful entrepreneur who - following social conventions - also financially supported cultural and charitable tasks from his income, he was awarded the Council of Commerce in 1900 , which was later followed by the title of Privy Council of Commerce . Because of his services to the brewing industry, he was elected Vice President of the German Brewers' Association and an honorary member of the experimental and training institute for brewing in Berlin. He was also the Italian honorary consul in Wroclaw.

In October 1904, the E. Haase lager brewery was initially leased for a period of twelve years for 32,000 marks a year . In the same year, Georg Haase acquired the bathing and spa business in Bad Altheide , which he modernized with considerable investments, making Altheide a well-known and popular spa. At the beginning of 1923 Haase converted the operating company Badeverwaltung Altheide GmbH into a stock corporation under the name Altheide AG for spa and bathing operations , with the supervisory board chairman until his death.

Haase also devoted himself to the scientific study of the brewery raw materials barley and malt, in particular he contributed to a scientifically objective evaluation system for brewing barley . He became chairman of the Gerstenbaugesellschaft mbH founded in 1919 . On October 1, 1920, he resigned from the management board of the lager brewery E. Haase GmbH , but remained closely associated with his company as chairman of the supervisory board until his death. He was also a member of the supervisory board of the Schultheiss-Patzenhofer Brauerei AG in Berlin and the Ostwerke AG in Berlin. From 1931 until the expropriation in 1945, his son Eduard Haase (1885–1961) ran the Haase brewery in Breslau.
