Quotes
- Also the King Friedrich Wilhelm III. we saw in the most comfortable way, for he rested for a whole day in torma and very lovingly pushed me aside when I, a boy of ten, was so absorbed in the effort to put on a pair of leather gloves in honor of the king that I obstinately blocked the way to the garden of Sr. Majesty. (Wagien)
- In Russian annals, Torma appears very early in 1030, 1130 and 1212 as an area north of Jurjew (Dorpat). The princes of Novgorod and Pleskau invaded here in order to chastise the Estonians who had become tributary in earlier times but had fallen away again. (Wagien)
- Because while the Dniepr rushes towards the warm south, reflects the golden crosses of the old cradle of Russia and points to the road to Byzantium, the Volga with its gigantic tributaries wallows broadly through the heart of Russia and flows through a misprint of creation into the sad Caspian Inland lake, while close by the much less important Don has seized a European outflow near Azov. (Episodes from the life of Trischka (of the Rasboinik))
