Georg Kestner (archivist, 1805)

Georg Kestner (full name: Georg Wilhelm Eduard Kestner , born July 9, 1805 in Hanover ; † February 9, 1892 in Dresden ) was a German archivist , chief inspector , private scholar , autograph and art collector and patron .

Georg Wilhelm Eduard Kestner was the son of archivist Georg Kestner and the grandson of Charlotte and Johann Christian Kestner . In 1839 he married Sophie Heydorn .

Career

Born at the time of the Electorate of Hanover during the so-called “ French era ” in one of Hanover's pretty families , Georg Kestner studied at the universities in Göttingen and Heidelberg before he was accepted into the civil service of the Kingdom of Hanover in his hometown .

In 1851 Kestner became a member of the Hanover Art Association . After his retirement , Georg Kestner went to Dresden in 1860, where he settled as a private scholar. In 1892, over appropriated he begun by his father and to around 20,000 copies extended by him autograph collection from the period of the late 18th and early 19th century, the Leipzig University Library .

Kestner died in Dresden in 1892 and was buried in the Old Annenfriedhof . The group of sculptures at the grave (two angels) was made by Adolf von Donndorf .
