Georg Nigl
Georg Nigl (* 1972 ) is an Austrian opera and concert singer ( baritone ) and singing teacher. From 2014 to 2017 he was professor for singing at the State University for Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart . In 2015 Opernwelt magazine's critics' poll voted him “Singer of the Year”.
Life
Georg Nigl performed as a soprano soloist with the Vienna Boys' Choir as a child . He studied singing at the Vienna University of Music with Margaretha Sparber and Rolf Sartorius, as well as song design with David Lutz at the Vienna Conservatory. He finished his training as a baritone with chamber singer Hilde Zadek .
Engagements have taken him to the Bolshoi Theater Moscow , the Berlin State Opera , the Bavarian State Opera Munich , the Stuttgart State Opera , the Hamburg State Opera , the Vienna State Opera , the Teatro alla Scala Milan, Teatro La Fenice Venice, Teatro Real Madrid , the Théâtre de la Monnaie Brussels, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées , the Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam and the Zurich Opera house , as well as festivals such as the Salzburg Festival , the Festival of Aix-en-Provence , the Lucerne Festival , the Schwetzingen Festival , the Ruhr Triennale , the Bregenz Festival , the Styriarte Graz and the Wiener Festwochen .
He worked under the direction of conductors Daniel Barenboim , Michael Boder , Teodor Currentzis , Daniel Harding , Nikolaus Harnoncourt , Thomas Hengelbrock , Pablo Heras-Casado , René Jacobs , Ingo Metzmacher , Marc Minkowski , Kent Nagano , Franck Ollu , Kirill Petrenko and Simon Rattle and with directors like Andrea Breth , Sasha Waltz , Philippe Arlaud , Frank Castorf , Jürgen Flimm , Achim Freyer , Claus Guth , Andreas Homoki , Hans Neuenfels , Peter Sellars , Joan Simmons , Dmitri Tschernjakow and Robert Wilson .
Georg Nigl has appeared as an executive soloist in many world premieres, including those of Friedrich Cerha , Pascal Dusapin , Péter Eötvös , Beat Furrer , HK Gruber , Georg Friedrich Haas , Wolfgang Mitterer , Olga Neuwirth , Wolfgang Rihm and Salvatore Sciarrino . Georg Nigl's chamber music repertoire ranges from the baroque to Viennese classical music to the latest music - developed and performed together with Alexander Melnikov , Andreas Staier and Gérard Wyss .
Recitals and concerts have taken him to concert halls in Paris, Vienna, Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich, Amsterdam, Luxembourg, Brussels, London, Stockholm, Lisbon, Barcelona, Rome, London, Singapore and Tokyo.
