Georg Rheineck
Georg Rheineck (born May 24, 1848 in Neckarsulm ; † July 4, 1916 in Stuttgart ) was a German sculptor. He spent most of his professional life in Stuttgart. His works are kept in a conservative-realistic style. In the Stuttgart area in particular, some of Rheineck's publicly accessible works have been preserved.
Life
origin
Georg Emil Rheineck was born on May 24th, 1848 in Neckarsulm as the youngest of 5 children. His father was the doctor Eduard Rheineck (1811–1873) from Ulm, who came to Neckarsulm in 1835 as a senior surgeon and in 1866 became a district doctor in Löwenstein . Rheineck's mother Ida Meßner was a daughter of the Neckarsulm chief medical officer Georg Meßner. After her death in 1863, Eduard Rheineck married Pauline Fromm in 1865, the daughter of Calw's chief magistrate Christian Ludwig Fromm. Rheineck's brother Eduard Rheineck (1838–1918), who was 10 years older than him, was also a sculptor.
education
After attending the Latin and Realschule, Rheineck completed an apprenticeship in the sculpture workshop of Johann Zartmann in Neckarsulm from 1862 to 1866 , attended the commercial training school in Heilbronn and passed the journeyman's examination. Afterwards he continued his artistic education in addition to his professional activity in order to be able to study at the art academy.
Rheineck took part as a soldier in the Franco-German War in 1870/1871. He studied under Theodor Wagner at the Stuttgart Art School in 1873/1874 , together with Adolf Fremd , Rudolf Dietelbach , Theodor Bausch and Albert Gäckle . From 1876 to 1879 he studied under Adolf Breymann and Ernst Hähnel at the Dresden Art Academy.
Working life
In 1879 Rheineck married Emma Clothilde Rosshirt (1816–1883) from Öhringen . The two daughters Emma and Ida emerged from the marriage. In 1883 the couple moved to Leipzig, where Rheineck made a name for himself as an artist. According to the Gewandhaus Kapellmeister Carl Reinecke , for whom he made a bust, he was an excellent artist and an undemanding, amiable person . Rheineck's wife died in 1883, a severe blow from fate from which he never recovered. The daughters grew up with relatives in Öhringen and Pforzheim , Rheineck himself moved to Karlsruhe in 1885, where he worked as an assistant to the professor at the Adolf Heer School of Applied Arts . In 1886 he settled in Stuttgart. There he lived from 1887 to 1898 at Eugenstraße 17, until 1903 at Landhausstraße 33, until 1906 at Blumenstraße 13 and finally until his death at Reinsburgstraße 84.
Retirement
Rheineck died after a long illness at the age of 68 on July 4, 1916 in Stuttgart. His grave in the Prague cemetery in Stuttgart no longer exists. The gravestone with a figure created by Rheineck is in the collection of the Neckarsulm Local History and Museum Association.
The Stuttgart painter Theodor Lauxmann judged him: "With him, a genuine Swabian artist has sunk in his grave again, whom contemporaries did not pay enough attention to and appreciate."

Catalog of works: # Löslein 1996 , pages 34–43.
According to the judgment of the Neckarsulm city archive, Rheineck's works were “high quality and typical of the time. His conservative, realistic style may be due to the fact that almost all of his works were commissioned work, for which he had to meet the taste of his mostly bourgeois clients. He made busts, medallions, tombs, sculptures and vessels. "
