Rudolf Dietelbach (born December 22, 1847 in Stuttgart , † September 25, 1917 in Stuttgart) was a German sculptor in Stuttgart who created portrait busts and portrait medallions in marble and bronze.

Life

Rudolf Alexander Dietelbach was born on December 22, 1847 in Stuttgart. His father was the medalist and court engraver Gottlob August Dietelbach (1806-1870), his mother was Caroline Rapp († 1877). Dietelbach took part in the Franco-German War in 1870/1871 as captain of the Royal Württemberg Landwehr . Until 1873 he studied under the sculptor Theodor von Wagner at the Stuttgart Art School, together with the sculptors Theodor Bausch , Adolf Fremd , Albert Gäckle and Georg Rheineck . He then continued his education in Berlin and on trips abroad to Paris, London and Italy.

From 1874 Dietelbach lived and worked in Stuttgart, first in various rented apartments, from 1880 in his own house at Bahnhofstrasse 12, where he set up his “studio for grave monuments” conveniently close to the Prague cemetery. After 1910 he built another house as a retirement home at Kornbergstrasse 37, which was located outside the city center at half height in the then quiet west of Stuttgart.

After her death, he erected a family grave in the Prague cemetery with the bronze portrait relief of his wife, which he had created in 1882, the year his daughter was born. The daughter Fanny Laggai (1882-1958) emerged from the marriage and was also buried in the family grave with her husband Friedrich Laggai. Dietelbach married Mathilde Beißwänger in his second marriage. He died at the age of almost 70 on September 25, 1917 in Stuttgart. His second wife survived him, she died after 1920.
