Georg Schambach

Georg Schambach (born January 9, 1811 in Göttingen , † April 15, 1879 in Einbeck ) was a German philologist , folklorist and grammar school director.

Life

After his training and studies, he was a teacher in Göttingen and later a grammar school director of the Progymnasium (today Goetheschule grammar school ) in Einbeck. In addition to his school activities, he dealt with the collection of folk traditions. His collection of Lower Saxon legends and fairy tales collected from the mouths of the people in collaboration with Wilhelm Konrad Hermann Müller comprises 261 legends and 34  fairy tales .

In 1961 a street in Berlin-Kladow was named after him. The surrounding streets are also named after folklorists and fairy tale collectors, such as Benfey , Kreutzwald , Mannhardt , Wisser or Wossidlo .
