Georg Wilhelm Neunhertz (also: Georg Wilhelm Josef Neunhertz ; * baptized May 11, 1689 probably in Breslau ; † May 24, 1749 in Prague ) was a German church painter , draftsman and engraver .

biography

Neunhertz was baptized on May 11, 1689 in Breslau. His parents were the painter Christian Neunhertz , who died two months after Georg Wilhelm's birth, and Maria Magdalena (née Willmann), daughter of the painter Michael Willmann , whose pupil he was initially. After his death in 1706 he was tutored by his stepson Johann Christoph Lischka . After Lischka's death in 1712, he continued the former Willmann workshop in Leubus Monastery . In 1724 he moved to Prague, where he was given major orders. There he acquired citizenship and belonged to the guild of painters. He also returned to Silesia several times from Prague for larger orders. His works show an excellent feeling for color and form. Although he was best known as a church painter, he also left behind significant drawings and steel engravings. His main work includes the iconographically rich fresco program for the Silesian monastery Grüssau .
